Samsung may bring the first blue phosphorescent OLED screens to the market in 2025. However, the company is facing some problems in producing the diodes necessary to make the technology work, which generates distrust on the part of some people who understand the subject.

This information comes from a report from the portal The Elec, which talks about the subject and mentions that the new panels were expected to debut in 2024. However, the development of the materials used for the blue subpixels is not happening in the best way.

Currently, Samsung uses technology with green and red phosphorescent subpixels, while the blue ones are fluorescent. Therefore, it is not possible to call the displays PHOLED due to this technical issue with the components.

To give you an idea, phosphorescent diodes can deliver 100% internal luminous efficiency, which is well above the blue ones that use another material. After all, they are restricted to just 25%, so being able to increase this would be one of the benefits of producing blue phosphorescent diodes.

Another interesting benefit occurs in energy efficiency, which should show great improvement with the use of phosphorescent materials. However, Samsung is running into some problems, such as the issue of useful life, which is shorter for diodes with this material.

In short, they only reach 55% of the useful life of blue fluorescent diodes. In fact, this is the reason why some people are skeptical about the launch of this technology in 2025. In any case, Samsung continues to make efforts to manufacture phosphorescent panels.
