The sun took center stage during the annular solar eclipse in October, with many incredible images captured by photographers around the world. Now German astrophotographer Mehmet Ergün has put the star in the spotlight again with a fantastic image showing the International Space Station (ISS) in front of the glowing giant.

The photograph was shared by NASA on November 19 in the “Astronomical Image of the Day” column, where the best images are displayed for fans around the world to admire.

In it we notice the immensity of the Sun in comparison to the International Space Station, which looks like a small fly on the screen in front of the star.

Another impressive fact is the definition of the Sun’s flames, which create a unique texture with plasma eruptions at very high temperatures approaching 15 million degrees Celsius.

The photographer explains that he used three images to obtain this result:

Transiting the Sun is not very unusual for the ISS, which orbits the Earth every 90 minutes. But getting the right location, timing and equipment for a great image is rare. The featured record combined three images, all taken in 2021, from the same location and at almost the same time.
To explain further, the first image captured the details of the top of the sun, while the second recorded the texture and the third, the most difficult, captured the International Space Station with various details, including the Crew Dragon capsule docked in the lower area.
